About Barre City

Barre is the Granite Center of the World. It sits on the Steven's Branch of the Winooski River in Washington County. The city is almost completely surrounded by the town of Barre, which is a separate municipality. Barre is home to over 9,000 residents, making it the largest city in Washington County and the 4th-largest city and 10th-largest municipality in Vermont. Life in Barre City

Barre provides convenient downtown shopping, many recreational opportunities, excellent schools and diverse housing options. Barre is also home to central Vermont's finest attractions, including the Barre Historic District and the Vermont Granite Museum. The City Auditorium, home to the two-time ABA champion Vermont Frost Heaves basketball team, is a multipurpose facility with a full gymnasium, locker rooms, ball courts, a kitchen, and facilities for meetings, dances, shows, auctions, craft fairs, bingo games and more. The Barre City Swimming Pool is home to a large outdoor pool and a tot pool. It is adjacent to the Rotary Park and Playground 2000, which includes picnic areas, shelter, basketball courts, tennis courts, a playground and more. Both the pool and park offer recreation lessons.
